Masonry structure is mainly applied in the multistory building in China nowadays and in the future. As a mainly material of masonry structure, clay brick will be gradually forbidden to utilize in the most areas of our country because of the issue of wall-reform policy, so it is necessary to select a new type of building that can replace it. Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) brick is a perfect succedaneum of clay brick because of its remarkable physics and mechanics character.In order to using AAC wall as bearing masonry seismic region, the experimental investigation of quasi-static test of 5 AAC block walls and 1 clay brick wall were carried out. The data of the load carrying capacity, stiffness, ductility and measurement of energy dissipation etc were acquired, at the same time, the failure characters and hysteretic behaviors on the basis of the experiments were analyzed, the resistance of collapse of walls which use two different materials was compared. Based on the experimental data and analyses results, a simplified formula for calculating the seismic resistant capacity of lateral loading of walls was suggested, the results of calculation coincided well with the experimental data.It is shown that the seismic performance of block masonry walls, which used the constructional column, is improved remarkably. It has good seismic behavior.
