Shanghai Li-Long Housing is the combination of residential building entity and city culture with typical Shanghai characteristic. This thesis begins with the public life in Shanghai Li-Long housing. Firstly, it defines Shanghai Li-Long housing as a place, and divides the place into two parts: space and event. Secondly, it explores the factors that form the place in history. Then based on extensive investigation of Shanghai Li-Long housings, it draws out 4 samples and analyzes the interaction between space and event in Li-Long place by three elements of the space, paths, edges and nodes, three kinds of activities in public spaces from the event, necessary/functional activities, optional/recreational activities and social activities. The thesis applies both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Finally, it discusses the need of Shanghai Li-Long place's conservation and the possibility of Li-Long place's sustainability.
