A novel steel-concrete composite box girder with large web interval and long cantilever is used in the Yangtze River Bridge. There are few examples and research on the shear connectors between the steel flange and the concrete deck slab both here and abroad which are in the complex combined stress. Based on the configuration and structural behavior of the Yangtze River Bridge, a model test was carried out to study the stress mechanism of the shear connector between the steel flange and the concrete deck.According to the test on the anti-shear performance of shear connectors, the stiffness, ultimate strength, serviceable strength used in this bridge were studied and anti-shear capacity expressions of shear connectors were compared. Furthermore, the test on the anti-uplift performance and anti-shear-uplift performance of shear connectors were executed to discuss the relationship between the anti-shear capacity and anti-uplift capacity.According to local part model test and finite element analysis, the different distributions of stud shear connectors were studied in order to restraint or reduce the uplifting force. The results indicated that the distribution of stud shear connectors should keep away from the abrupt change of flange rigidity, especially the stiffeners.At one time, finite model of the Yangtze River Bridge was built for the simulation analysis and the shear connectors were simulated by three-dimensional spring elements in order to consider the slip between the steel flange and the concrete deck slab. Longitudinal shear, transverse shear and uplifting force caused by dead load, live load, temperature and shrinkage were exactly calculated. The studs at a disadvantage were checked, and the reasonable distribution of the studs for this bridge was advanced.
