The Research On Comparison Of Westernization In Detached Houses Of Changsha And Guangdong Province In Modern Times

Changsha is a typical inland city while Guangzhou is a typical inshore one in China. The detached houses were the residency of the upper ten in the city and the thesis tends to compare them which built during the time between 1840 to 1949 in the two cities. China were greatly invaded by the western culture in that period and the architures were also westernized. The research tends to summarize what they change and what the rules they had to obeyed from inland city to inshore one.Natural geographical and historical differences make Changsha and Guangdong had discrepant folkway and characters. For the hosts of the detached houses were wealthy in the city, how they looked on and got to know the western culture were different from others in these cities which affected the houses they owned. The research takes these contents as writing frameworks. The full text can be divided into three part: The first part compares the society and the city development in the two cities. The second part compares the westernization of the detached houses in these two cities from three aspects which are plan, facade,technic and sum up the types, scale, size, comfort, style, idiographic modus operandi rules. The third part summarizes the westernization of the detached houses from inland to inshore cities.Bases on documentation mine, information investigation and public opinion interview, the research build a firmly platform: widely investigate more than a hundred detached houses in two cities and mapping a part of them; enlarge the investigation area and do some research to the nearby cities, village and ancestral temple. All these form 55 actuality evaluating tabulations and about ten thousand photographs. So the thesis is also a summarization of the detached houses in the two cities. Finally, some appendixes including some actuality evaluating tabulations of the detached houses mentioned in the thesis.
