For a long time, the heat-exchange equipments in thermal power system have been designing mainly depending on traditional experience and manual calculation. Because of the low efficiency and long period, the old methods could hardly meet the market need and the tendency of high efficiency and complication. This paper aims at solving the above problems and analyzes the characteristics of heat-exchange equipments. On the platform of UGS NX3.0, a CAD system that runs through the whole design process of heat-exchange equipments Is developed. The system helps improve the efficiency and design response ability.The model of CAD system is constructed after analyzing the actuality and process of heat-exchange equipments' design in refrigeration industry. The structure, function modules and realizing process of the system are discussed. The system database is developed. This paper puts emphasis on the mechanical design subsystem. In the subsystem modules such as structure design, intensity checkout, components parametric design, automatic assembling and automatic building of two-dimension engineering drawings and the relation among the modules are studied. The key techniques in the CAD system are analyzed. Combined with UG secondary development technology parametric modeling method and the process of three-dimension component models are discussed. An automatic assembling method for three-dimension models based on assembling rules is presented. By this method automatic assembling of three-dimension models of heat-exchange equipments and the parts is realized. Making use of attributes of reference set, lists in two-dimension part engineering drawings could be built automatically. In addition, this paper presents the structure model of heat exchanger products based on XML.With Visual C++6.0, this paper makes use of the object oriented idea and UG/Open API module to carry out the secondary development to NX software. Windows 2000 and UGS NX3.0 are support platforms. This system has run successfully in Dalian Refrigeration Company Limited. The running results indicate that this system could improve the design efficiency of heat-exchange equipments. Also the system has good practicability and conveniences.
