The crashworthiness design of urban rail vehicle is becoming more and more popular with the enhancement of people's safety consciousness. On the basis of summarizing the successful experience in crashworthiness design both at home and abroad, passive safety protection system and modular design of the crashworthy vehicle were studied in this thesis.Firstly, based on non-liner FEA, the crash simulation of energy-absorbing device in urban rail vehicle was studied by using MSC software. A 2D non-liner finite element model was built up and an analysis was carried out based on studying its dynamic response and energy absorption, as well as the tearing process of this energy-absorbing device. Upon them, a new crashworthy structure of the locomotive was designed according to the crashworthy design criteria and the collision performance of its passive safety protection system was simulated. Finally in the basis of design of crashworthy structure of rail vehicles, the modularization concept for designing the crashworthy vehicles was put forward here in detail. Meanwhile its key techniques of application were discussed as well. By using finite element methods, a study on modularized car body with crashworthiness structures was performed. And the results of computer simulation indicate the feasibility of modularization concept for the crashworthy vehicles design.
