Lighting consumes 17% electricity generated in the earth every year. In 2004, 218.7 billion kwh electric power was used in lighting, and it is almost as three times as the total electricity generated by Sanxia water power plan when it will be completed. So it is advisable to save energy by improving the existing lighting control system. A lighting control system using Power line communication technology, which is low cost, high reliability and suits medium or small-scale lighting system, is designed in this dissertation to do some contribution in the process of improving the existing lighting control system. Because of the complexity with using power line as communication channel, the characteristic of power line is analyzed, system structure which consists of double layers in hardware and dynamic multiple layers in logic is built, and the design plan is proposed. After finishing those works, the hardware and software of the lighting control system are designed. At last, test on lighting control system is conducted.In the first chapter, the definition, classification, advantages, disadvantages and development history are introduced. The research status of power line communication technology, lighting technology and routing algorithm are summarized. The frame of this thesis is presented.In the second chapter, the feature of noise, impedance and signal attenuation of power line communication channel are analyzed. The conclusion of time vibration and randomcity is drawn. On the basis of analysis of the structure of three kinds of systems using PLC technology, the system structure which consists of double layers in hardware and dynamic multiple layers in logic is built.In the third chapter, the design plan is proposed, the spread spectrum technique and PLC chip used in lighting control system based on power line communication are chosen. The hardware of master and terminal are developed while emphasis is placed on power line communication module.In the fourth chapter, to cope with the difference of power line communication environment, the time-fixing update route algorithm that suits the environment with big vibration in exact time period and the dynamic update route algorithm which suits the environment with continuous small vibration are designed.In the fifth chapter, on the basis of analysis of the current power line communication protocols and reference to OSI model, the protocol for lighting control system based on power line communication is designed.
