This dissertation is part of the series Research on The Three Gorges Reservoir District's Human Settlements Construction in Recent 10 Years. The Construction of the Three Gorges Project makes much affection to the Chinese society, and has adjusted and improved the living environment in the reservoir distric. Great change has been made to the society, economy, culture, urban construction to the cites in the Three Gorges reservoir district since 1994 when the project started. Great achievement has been made to Human Settlements Construction to the cites in the Three Gorges reservoir district,but many problems also has for them. WANZHOU ,as center city of the Three Gorges reservoir district ,has representative of the characteristic of Human Settlements, construction achievements and problems in the district .This dissertation discusses the development of Human Settlements Construction to the cites in the Three Gorges reservoir district in recent 10 Years. It takes WANZHOU as case, investigating and analyzing the history of the city, which developed from a small city of the 250 thousand populations in the beginning of the project to a big city of the 500 thousand populations. In the recent years, WANZHOU perfected its city function, and improved its Human settlements, but at the same time, many problems has also emerged, such as society space reconstruction ,the hollow industry under quick development, the employment problem, the biogeocenose problem , the disappearance of city feature. All of them are the typical reflection of reservoir district. This dissertation analyzed the achievements and problems of economics, sociality, urban construction, culture, landscape, and brought up some positive advice, directed by the Human Settlements science combined with sociology, economics, geography, the theory of city planning and architecture to find out some regulations and solutions on the development of Human Settlements t in the Three Gorges reservoir district through this research.This dissertation has eight chapters. The first chapter is a preface, discussing the meaning, method of this research as well as the affection of the Three Gorges Project to Human settlements, brief situation of The Three Gorges reservoir district's Human Settlements construction in recent 10 years.
