Research On The Interface Of Urban Street

The objective for this thesis is to research the interface design of urban street, and the purpose is to provide a design method.In the 21st century, the urban function will reform on society, economy, environment, and technology. All of these changes will induce the renovating and re-creation for space shape, which will challenge our urban planners and architects. In this thesis, an urban design method is introduced for the direction of systematic theory. This design method is based on the epoch background, and finally is concluded from the writer's participation in the project which is a vista reform from Liang-Lu-Kou to Chao Tian Men.The origination and basic concept of street are introduced in chapter I and chapter II as well with the setting up of theory frame. Also these two chapters clearly confirm the basic concept which is the research field and the research objective discussed in this thesis. This confirmation clearly defines which problem is studied and which problem is aimed. The characteristic, function, and essence are also concluded. An opinion is raised up that street is a carrier of colorful urban living and is an important component which builds up and connects urban functions on commerce, resident and other fields. Chapter III discusses several problems which is produced on the street level of a city, and concludes their root cause. This chapter analyses the disadvantage and demerit of study achievement from mandarin and abroad on the field of street interface control. Chapter III also introduces the writing frame of the consequent chapters which is the deep research of the whole thesis. Starting from the classical operation method and standing on the existing achievements, chapter III improves the study of street interface research.Chapter IV, Chapter V, and Chapter VI detailedly introduce the restrictive conditions and the design countermeasures for the five component factors of street interface, and put forward several design advices to these restrictive conditions. Via the theory analysis and the operation method conclusion, these three chapters answer not only the design for street interface (WHAT), but also design motivity (WHY) and the thinking process from theory to practice (HOW). From these works, the conjunction between world view and methodology is almost resolved. All method provided in these three chapters will be performed to analyze the practice example of Chapter VII.
