The modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) incorporated with helium turbine is considered as one of the leading candidates for future nuclear power plants. Nowadays, HTGR can provide the heat source at the temperature of 900℃. Limited by the temperature of the working fluid, steam turbine cycle cannot maximize the economic potential of HTGR. The helium is an ideal cooling fluid for the reactor due to its chemical characteristics. Helium turbine cycle has no such limitation, and such kind of nuclear power plant is of higher efficiency compared with conventional nuclear power plant because of the higher helium turbine inlet temperature. Consequently, it is expected to be a competing candidate for future concepts of high efficiency power generation.The performance of closed-cycle helium turbine incorporated with HTGR which coupled with recuperating, intercooling and precooling processes is studied in this paper .The main purpose of this article is to study the fundamental features of HTGR coupled with gas turbine cycle (HTGR-GT). Based on the results of the cycle study, fundamental aerodynamic features of helium turbine design for HTGR-GT cycle are analyzed.Firstly, the thermal efficiency of the cycle and the optimum pressure ratio are derived in the way of calculating of the thermodynamic process .Then, analyzes the thermodynamic process of HTGR gas turbine cycle to show the effects of various parameters on the cycle efficiency .In addition, the recuperator and the intercooler are analyzed briefly and optimized and obtains an optimal scheme. Finally, the aerodynamic analysis and design of the 10MW HTGR-GT are performed on the basis of the cycle studies. Fundamental aerodynamic features of the design of helium turbine are studied.
