Flextensional transducer is a typical low frequency, high-power transmitter. It has the advantage of small volume and lightweight due to displacement amplification. Therefore for low frequency, broadband transmission it had been the hot point of corresponding researches all over the world. A miniaturized version of the class V flextensional transducer: cymbal transducer was developed in the 1980s at the Materials Research Laboratory at the Pennsylvania State University. For small volume and lightweight, cymbal transducer can be applied not only as underwater acoustic transducer, but also as pressure sensor, acceleration sensor and has a good application future.Since the structure of flextensional transducer is complicate, there are many restrictions on designing flextensional transducer when using the classical equivalent circuit method, so Finite element method had been used for theoretical analysis. This paper use FEM software-ANSYS to design the cymbal transducer and analyze the material parameter and the structure parameters that affects the cymbal transducer capability, then confirm the size of virtual transducer and gain the cymbal transducer electrical and acoustic capability in the air and in the water.This paper design a nine elements plane array used the cymbal transducer and the cymbal transducer is equal to a circular piston. The directivity function is gained by the multiplicative theorem, the formulate of the mutual radiation impedance is originated from the Brouwkamp expressions. The expression of the mutual radiation impedance has a factor and then the theoretic formula of the array transmit voltage response is gained. The array capability is analysed by MATLAB, such as the radiation impedance, the transmit voltage response and the directivity pattern.According the size of virtual transducer, these papers manufacture the components and design the matrix, then assemble the cymbal transducer and the nine element plane array.
