Research Restorative Design Of The Urban Waterfront Landscape

With the rapid urbanization of China, urban functions and characters evolved. Many old urban waterfronts declined gradually. On one hand, due to history effects, over development and pollution emission, urban water areas reduced; water quality became worse; environmental carrying capacity was hard to support the natural balance, and thus ecology system was destructed. On the other hand, blind exploration invaded the space of urban waterfront and similar, simplifying mechanization rebuild of waterfront has made the landscape lost its beautiful characteristic everywhere. Therefore, how to restore the destroyed landscape of urban waterfront to elegant scenery was the key to the protections, renovation and exploration of waterfront.Based on the investigation of the current situation and problems of urban waterfront, the landscape characterizations of decayed urban waterfronts were stated and its reason discussed in this dissertation. Secondly, its restoration frame from the aspects of natural and humanistic landscape was discussed with referring to successful cases and related theories. The restoration frame of natural landscape included restoration of water, vegetation, bank, and the restoration frame of humanistic landscape included elevation of contour line, restoration of historic architectures and integration of nearby traffic. And then the sustainability of the restoration frame was discussed. As an example, the problem of 'Wai Sha Hu' Lake was analyzed and its restoration design was given.
