With the development of petrochemical and nuclear industry, canned motor pumps are being used more and more widely. As the critical part of this kind pump, design, analysis and application of canned motors all have made a considerable progress. Nevertheless, there still exist problems in calculating of stator can's eddy loss and the analyzing of can influence on performances of canned motors.First, the structure and the design characteristics of canned motor were introduced, in this paper. Three different canned motors, whose two-dimensional model for eddy field finite element calculation were established, were taken as the examples, and their eddy loss had been analyzed by inner–outer convergence method and traditional analytical equations separately. By the comparison of obtained results with the test data, the precise and the scientific nature of this method can be seen clearly. Based on of this, the eddy losses of stator can with different thickness and resistivity were computed and analyzed separately, by which the influence of these parameters on cans'eddy current loss was proposed. According to the structure feature of canned motor and electrical machinery theory, the equivalent circuit of canned motor was presented, and the parameters of stator can in it were calculated too. Then the operating and starting performances of canned motor with different stator can were analyzed, thus the laws of these performances variations with stator can parameters could be obtained.Based on the eddy field analysis, the FEM mathematical model of temperature field that weakly coupled with eddy fields of the motor which adapting mush windings was established, and the equations to calculate the correlation thermal conductivity and the coefficient of heat transfer were deduced. Taking the eddy loss from eddy field calculation as the heat source of...
