Today, energy sources lacking increasingly and the frequency of traffic accident is challenging road lighting. From the point of safety and energy saving, how to choose the feasible light sources on road lighting caused lighting practitioners disputed a hot problem—which luminous efficacy on earth is higher, high pressure sodium lamps or metal halide lamps? There isn't a guidance method of evaluating luminous efficacy of light sources on road lighting yet resulted in the problem has not been solved at present. So this thesis refer to the problem, to take the HPS lamps and MH lamps as study objects, studies on and established a technical method of evaluating relative luminous efficacy of light sources on road lighting using reaction times, in order to provide a calculate method for road lighting design and impersonal proof for light sources chosen, to create the best road lighting qualities with the lest energy and achieve Green Lights. Because road lighting levels is in mesopic region , this thesis summarized the visual reaction characteristic of driving nighttime under road lighting by expatiating and analyzing visual characteristic of human eyes in mesopic vision. Emphasis is the relationship between reaction times and accident times, as well as movements of object tends to be detected by peripheral vision. This thesis indicates that using reaction times as a parameter of evaluating luminous efficacy of light sources on road lighting is very important and necessary. It's essential to study the effect of peripheral vision on luminous efficacy of light sources. On the basis of correlative literature review in China and other countries, combined with the needs of studying on road lighting, we manufactured a"reaction times on road lighting measure system"by ourselves. Reaction times are measured under different experiment conditions by the system through simulating the road lighting environment. By the correlation analysis of measure dates, this thesis finds a new function about reaction times against background luminance: Y=y0+A1?e-x/t1+ A2?e-x/t2.Based on different experiment conditions, the thesis concludes effects of lighting levels, target contrast, target eccentricity on reaction times by classifying and discussing measure dates relatively, and determinates the values of coefficients of the function under different experiment conditions. Finally, this thesis created a new calculate method of evaluating luminous efficacy of light sources on road lighting quantificationally make use of the function concluded...
