Nowadays, seismic isolation and energy dissipation are the most mature control technology in practical application. Currently more than thirty countries actively proceed to base isolation application research. The base isolation technology has been already extensive applied in bridge and architecture. At completing the application research, the isolation design method has also gradually normlized day by day. The United States, Japan, New Zealand and Italy etc. promulgated the specification for design of buildings one after another. Our country issues 《codes for seimic design of buildings》 ( GB50011-2001) in July of 2001 also formally compile one chapter—isolation and energy dissipation. However, there are some new question for isolation structure design in applying in practice. It will be researched from the theory and testing in this disseration. This paper aim at the present research condition of rubber bearings for isolation structure in 《codes for seimic design of buildings》. Taking the codes of Japan, the United States and our country as an example, in which the isolation structure applied more, mainly around response spectrum in these countries' codes and design method of isolation structure.Through comparing the design response spectra of Chinese, Japan and USA codes for seismic design of buildings, the revised suggestions are put forward to long period portion of response spectrum in our current code. Moreover, based on the revision results, using a table shaking testing to verify it. On the foundation of the theoretical derivation, the results of model analysis and testing verification, the specific content develop from following few aspectses:1) The isolation design idea and seismic design demand (including seismic protected object, seismic protected level, seismic design method) is analyzed. The acceleration design spectrum for seismic codes in these country is compared and the characteristics are genalized. But also the satisfying condition which needed at using the design method of isolation structure is compared.2) According to these three codes for seismic design of buildings to set the characteristic of the building, a 14-story reinforced concrete frame-shear wall isolation structure is investigated. It can be seen that the response value calculated by code is deviated bigger from the value cauculated by time history analysis.3) Using the equivalent linear method and time history analysis mentioned in each code,...
