Light is the forth dimention of architecture, and plays an extremely important role in expressing architecture. But in the practical projects, there are a lot of cases in which materials are lit in wrong ways. Usually, these situations are caused by misunderstandings of relationships between light and materials, which cause many problems like architectural lighting being less artistic, energy waste, strong glare etc. Though there are still many successful lighting cases, most of them are created by designers on the basis of their experience, lacking systematic directions.Through lots of case studies, practical experience and some experiments in studio, this thesis aims at studying the relationship between light and materials to give some references for practical projects.
