As its scope swells, modern architecture looks more and more like a labyrinth withthe increasingly bulky volume. When people wander inside, the stairs is their commontarget. Besides the main vertical transportation function, the stairs extends its functionaloperations in many fields. Taken for instance, stairs can be used as a stick-around place,or used as a space for communication, and also it can be seen as a space for exhibition,etc.People probably encounter stairs everyday. The stairs is an indispensablearchitectural component as well as the inside architecture of the whole, so it is theproblem architects usually face in design. To make a good stairs project, initially, it isnecessary to understand the characteristics of the stairs. Then, analysis of therelationship between staircase and people and that between stairs and architectureshould be made in order to solve series problems, like how to make good use of thespace or how to design the landscape. These above issues will be analyzed anddiscussed in this article.
