Cast steel joints have been widely used in the world due to their excellent performance. In this paper, the development of cast steel joints from abroad and home is summarized, and the application, test and FEM analysis of cast steel joints in our country are introduced.Several kinds of cast steel joints are used in the steel roof structure of the terminal of PuDong international airport. Because there is no perfect design method of cast steel joints available in our country, in order to ensure the safety of these joints, in this paper, the full-scale loading test and FEM analysis on two kinds of cast steel joints with large load and complex detailing are reported.The full-scale loading test shows that, the design of test loading system is reasonable, because it can simulate force status of the specimen in actual structure very well. Two kinds of joints can satisfy the requirements of strength and stiffness under design load. The rule of stress and strain development of the joints is investigated, the advantages and disadvantages of different detailing are compared, and the weakness of the joints is found out.The distributing status of stress inside the joints is investigated by FEM analysis, which is a good complement to the test. Two FEM models of screw connections are compared and a kind of simplified model is recommended. Based on data and phenomenon of test and the FEM analysis, the destruct mechanism of radial spherical pain bearing in the test is explained, which provides evidences for the improvement of the joints.
