With the development of city construction, more and more high-rise buildings with novel shapes and complicated structures are emerging and bring the structural analysis, particularly the local analysis, a hard work to deal with. In order to meet the requirement of building function and construction progress, steel structure forms are adopted in many buildings. In this case, the buckling problems in some local parts in compression and the joint stress problems in some key connections often become the most concern problems in the structure design. The above local buckling or stress problems can not be resolved in the global analysis and there are no corresponding provisions for these problems in the design code. Therefore, analysis and study of these problems using the computer method is quite necessary. In this dissertation, a complicated steel structure—Hangzhou international conference center is considered. A stability analysis is first carried out to the single-layer spherical rib-circle latticed dome on the top of the structure. By using two different kinds of force applying schemes, the effects of initial flaw, boundary condition, unsymmetrical loading and member cross section on the buckling behaviors of the single-layer spherical rib-circle latticed dome is investigated and the obtained load-displacement curves and ultimate loads are compared with each other.Secondly the stability analyses of the spherical frame in the C-shaped building opening which is considered as the weakest part of the building is performed. Several key problems including the proper selection of boundary condition during modeling and proper consideration of the self-weight of the structure is discussed and resolved in the analysis. The effects of different model scheme, boundary condition and member section on the stability of the spherical frame in the opening is studied and emphasized.Thirdly the stress in the most complicated cast joint in Hangzhou international conference center is analyzed. In the dissertation a new load-applying manner is put forward and the validity and accuracy of the manner is verified. During the elastic modeling different types of element and different member dimensions are consideredand compared with each other according to the cast joint design regulations. Then the elastic-plastic analysis is carried out and the stress condition of the cast joint under buckling condition is investigated. The ultimate load capacity of the joint is obtained from the load-displacement curve. Finally some skills and experiences for use of the software ANSYS during the analysis of complex structures are given and several primary ways for resolution of the currently existing problems are also presented.
