The control method of SVC based on the instantaneous reactive power theory is mainly researched in this paper. The working principles and character of SVC Based on the instantaneous reactive power theory are briefly analyzed. After analysis of power produce character of the typical three-phases unbalance load, the digital compensating algorithm used in SVC is reduced. The main circuit is composed of the power filter series and TCR control circuit. The control method is simulated by SIMULINK of MATLAB software. The hardware control system based on industrial computer is designed, which includes sampling circuit, filter circuit, phase-compensated circuit and so on. The program of the system is compiled and a prototype is made and tested. The simulation and experimental results show that the SVC based on the instantaneous reactive power theory can compensate Var on real time for unbalanced system. The controller has characters of fast reaction, preferable controlling precision and robust. In a word, the result shows that this method can achieve the aim of compensating and balancing the reactive current. It is effective, accurate, and fast response performance. At the end of this paper, the corresponding real waves with Var compensation are provided.
