Ultra precise spindle is one of the key technologies of ultra precise machine tool. Spindle motion error is a main factor that influences the machining accuracy of the machine tool. Spindle motion accuracy is an important item to evaluate the dynamic performance of machine tool. The measurement of the spindle motion error is one of the key technologies of precise machine tool. Aerostatic motorized spindle and hydrostatic motorized spindle are adopted widely in modern high speed ultra precise modern machine tool, which greatly improve the spindle motion accuracy up to sub micrometer even nanometer-level. Further more, the development of machine tool automation technique, intelligent technique, prediction and compensation technique of the spindle motion error request us to carry out a real-time dynamic measurement of the motion error on high precise spindle.A spindle motion accuracy measurement will inevitably be influenced by the shape of the target surface. For high precision spindles, the form error cannot be neglected. So the research of spindle motion error measurement technique focuses on the error separation techniques. In this project, a high speed aerostatic motorized spindle was chosen to be the research object;three main error separation techniques were studied. According to the characteristics of the high speed ultra precise spindle, a simple and effective error separation technique—statistical EST is developed to realize the real-time dynamic spindle error motion measurement. Detailed theoretical analysis was discussed;the relative measuring method and idiographic data process technique were given.In order to verify the validity of statistical error separation technique and evaluate its separation accuracy, a specific opening architecture software system base on Matlab 7 was developed to simulate the spindle motion error. On this simulation system, the statistical EST was applied and stochastic spindle motion error andperiodic spindle motion error were simulated. The results of the simulation show that this method is effective.According to the requirement of the statistical EST, a hardware system used for high speed ultra precise spindle motion error measurement was built and a dynamic spindle motion error measurement software system was developed base on the virtual instrument technique on Lab VIEW 7.1.At the end of this paper, the high speed spindle motion error dynamic measurement system was used for the motion error measurement of the high speed aerostatic motorized spindle which was developed by the lab of high speed machining of GDUT. The measurement data was analyzed, the validity of the statistical EST was evaluated and the reliability of the measuring system was tested.
