The distribution and transport of suspended sediment in the estuary area plays an important role in the estuarine evolution, channel regulation and coastal environments research.Mastering the distribution and transport of suspended sediment can not only deepen the knowledge of sediment transport ,but also supply the technical support for estuary regulation and planning.In this paper,first,the region tidal current field was calculated and by comparing with the matched monitoring data,it proved that the result of calculation tallied well with the fact.Based on the above,the distribution of suspended sediment concentration are simulated,the result of wich was compared with the mean sediment load in the same vertical of monitoring points proving that the simulation was successful.Using the above information,temporal and spatial changes of suspended sediment concentration in the jiaojiang river estuary area was analysed.Temporally,the suspended sediment concentration in the jiaojiang river estuary area show a neap-spring tidal cycle and flood-ebb fluctuations. The concentration of suspended sediment during the spring-tide is greater than that during the neap-tide;during the spring-tide , in the south channel it in flood tide is greater than that in ebb tide while in the north channel it in ebb tide is greater than that in flood tide;during the neap-tide,in the both channels it in the flood tide is greater than than in ebb tide. The suspended sediment concentration in the jiaojiang river estuary area varies with space. In the onshore-offshore direction,the jiaojiang river estuary area exhibits turbidity maximum;alongshore,during the flood tide the suspended sediment concertration in the south channel is greater than that in the north channel while during the ebb tide it in the north channel is greater than that in the south channel.The method of mechanism analyses was used in this paper to calculate the net suspended sediment flux .The results indicate that in the onshore-offshore direction the value of net sediment transport enhances seaward;alongshore,the sediment is transported seaward in the north channel of zhapu section during spring and neaptides but in the south channel of zhapu section the net sediment transport directs landward during the spring tide and is formed clockwise circulation during the neap tide.In the north channel of haimen section exhibits the clockwise circulation during spring and neap tides while in the south channel the net sediment transport directs seaward during the spring tide but landward during the neap tide.
