At present, IEC 61850 is the newest national standard about communicationsnetwork and system in substations. Part 6 of the standard specifies the configurationdescription language (SCL) for communication in electrical substation related to IEDs.First, the background and actuality of the standard are introduced. Then the method ofdescribing Substation Automation System using by the SCL is analyzed.Discussing the methods and steps of modeling an IED device, the dissertationbrings forward a way how to put the protection setting value into the logical nodes forthe first time.The setps of creating a device configuration document is emphasized. Inaddition the possible problems faced during implementing the IEC 61850 is drawn at last.
