With the development of power system, more and more security, reliability and economyare demanded in current supply. Precise fault location technology is becoming important. It isnot only economizing manual effort but also assuring rapid supply recovery, so it does greatimportance to economic life and politics. The primary content of the paper is research on fault location methods and technologyinformation processing for single-phase ground fault in 35kV and 66kVmedium-voltagedistribution networks. In view of the current of single phase ground fault is small and faultsignal is feeble, the paper propose a double terminal fault location method of detectingtraveling wave of voltage on line. Digital simulation certifies that the first arriving time of thefault voltage traveling wave can be detected .It is not influenced by fault site and transitionresistance. The two-terminal fault location method is feasible. In practical design, faultvoltage traveling wave is record by a loop acquisition scheme using a high speed acquisitioncard. Time synchronization unit generates microsecond time scale trough 8253 countercontrolled by chip microcomputer based on GPS pulse per second. The arriving time of faultvoltage traveling wave can be identified using Modulus maxima theory of wavelet transform.Comparing time data, fault location can be implemented. Physical test model is set up toverify the scheme mentioned above, a great deal of test results certify that the fault locationmethod using two-terminal voltage traveling wave is positively effective and feasible.
