Following the development of international liner shipping business, the operators of liner shipping and related experts are paying more attention gradually to the problem on container allocating in shipping routes. The main aim of container allocating is to make sure that all the vessels are operated well. Reasonable strategy of container allocating can not only improve the using rate, but also avoid operating risks and enhance the competing ability of liner companies. In order to discuss the problem systemically, the author starts from slot allocation and takes it as a basis to do research on container allocating in shipping routes, meantime, the author puts forward a method to work out the quantity of container allocating in port and on vessel according to their characteristics respectively, and further the author finds a optimum way to allocate self-owned and leasing containers. The author provides a general description of the problem on container allocating in chapter 2 which introduced the main contents and aims of container allocating and also analyzed the related studies and the existing problems in present ways of container allocating. In chapter 3 the author selects a typical route and do a series of assumption on it, then puts forward a slot allocation modal for liner vessel according to the analyzing of the related factors and subjected conditions, on the basis of the model, the author selects some actual data as an example and uses a software of Lindo to do the calculation and brief sensitivity analysis. In chapter 4 the author presents the calculating steps for the quantity of containers allocating and carried out the research on the quantity of container allocating in port and on vessel. In chapter 5 the author does the research on the means of container allocating and the strategy according to the applicable conditions of different means of container allocating. At last the author discusses the future applications and some outstanding issues.
