The tunnel transferring water from Luan river into Tianjin city is an importantengineering which supplies water to Tianjin, the safety monitoring of its operating stateis also an important part of its engineering management. In this research on theautomatic safety monitoring system of tunnel transferring water from Luan river intoTianjin city, combining practical situation of the tunnel engineering, an automatic safetymonitoring system of tunnel is established based on the integer of optical fibre sensor,optical fibre transmission technique and computer network technique, in order to solvethe open question in former monitoring system.This system operates well after its establishment, in this system, a large amount ofdata are collected, including deformation, internal and external water pressure applied totunnel liner, temperature variation in the tunnel etc, also the on-line assessment ofmonitoring data and automatic generation of graph could be accomplished. All in all,this system has a good effect on safe operation of tunnel engineering.Compared with classical engineering safety monitoring system, the merits ofautomatic safety monitoring system of tunnel are as follows:Firstly, distinguished from classical differential generator and vibrating generator,the adopted optical fibre sensor owns the higher accuracy of monitoring data and thestronger anti-interference ability. Secondly, the optical fibre transmission technique notonly has the characteristics like powerful thunder protection, damp-proof andanti-electromagnetism interference ability, but also could easily realize the distancetransmission. Finally, the computer monitoring system based on Ethernet owns theinfinite superiority in transfer rate, resource sharing, expandability, stability, versatilityand standardization.Although this system is designed with the practical situation of the tunneltransferring water from Luan river into Tianjin city, but it successfully applies theadvanced optical fibre sensor, optical fibre transmission technique and computernetwork technique into hydraulic engineering. Then it has developed the newcomplexion on safety monitoring of hydraulic engineering. Its design idea certainly canbe extended into safety monitoring field of other vital engineering.
