With the Extensive application of video technology in electric power system, thefunction of image information became more and more important. By analysis of powerequipment state based on image processing technology, we could monitor or recognize thephysics quantity or state of power equipment, find excrescent phenomenon and latentbreakdown. It was very important to the safety and stability of the electric power system. Inthis paper, the basic methods of image processing and the application of image processingtechnology on state monitoring of power equipment were presented. The certain intelligentprocessing was carried on to the collected images, and the common image recognizingprocess was illustrated。Using image recognition technology could test the situations ofdisconnection or link. The concrete process of apex recognition, the principle of the crossvision emulation and the orifice imaging principle were presented, and based on them thealgorithm of transmission line sag was established.
