With the rapid development of the international academic exchange and the impact exerted by the Western developed modernization on China, the academic circle in China pays ever increasingly attention to the influence and revelation of modern theory in landscape architecture from the West, thus a considerable achievements have been made accordingly. On the contrary, there is less study on the influence of the traditional Chinese landscape theory on its counterpart, the Western one. Some studies, which were conducted in the early 1950s or 1960s, are primarily tentative pieces. They are comparatively unconvincing due to their rough and only descriptive features and lack of systematic framework. With retrospection of the influence of Chinese traditional garden, in terms of its theory and the overall arrangement of gardens etc, the paper tends to analyze the Chinese traditional gardens in a more impersonal and more rational manner, in order to maintain a normal mood when in face of the relatively overwhelming Western modern culture. And when combining the influence of the Chinese traditional garden on the landscape architecture development in the west and taking into account the current development of landscape architecture in China, possible ways for the Chinese garden 's modernization are proposed in the paper. There are two parts of the paper, namely the main content and the epilogue, totally six chapters. The main text part first analyzed the differences between the Chinese and Western traditional gardens in artistry. Then, in the following chapters, deeper analysis on the artistry of traditional Chinese garden in the Western world and its influence were given. And the revelations of these influences were summarized at the end of the paper. Furthermore, revitalization of the Chinese traditional garden in order to represent the essence of this traditional artistry in the new era is suggested at the end of the paper.
