The study of this paper belongs to the engineering practice problem. The objective of investigation is a type of truck equipped with the equilibratory suspension and the driver's cab-suspended-fully. The ADAMS ( Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems) is employed to analyze the ride performance of the truck and optimize the design of suspension system. The study provides the theoretical guidance and makes a design suggestion directly for improving the ride performance of this type of truck. In order to examine the reasonbility of the half truck model used in previous studys, this paper establishes a half truck model and a whole truck model respectively which have the same parameters. The random excitation is generated based on the road surface statistic character. A tire-road interaction model is used to model the tire according to the predecessor's studys. Compared with the spring model, the tire-road interaction model can represent better the behaviors of tires and simplify the vibration model of truck. In this paper the ride performance of the truck is analyzed by means of ADAMS (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems) whose theoretical basis is muti-body dynamics, so ADAMS and its theoretical basis are introduced. In order to make the optimal design of the ride performance, firstly, the modal analysis, the harmonic response analysis and the random vibration analysis are performed. These analyses point out the present situation of the ride performance of truck and reveal the modals and freqences contributing significantly to the vertical vibration of driver's seat, which help to determine the design parameters which affect significantly the cab vibration. Secondly, taking the stiffness and the damping of suspension system as the optimized parameters and the minimization of the root mean square value of the acceleration of the driver's seat as the optimal objective, the optimization analysis is performed for two optimization schemes. Finally, the simulation at time domain is excuted to each model of the truck to obtain effect including the dynamic loads as the trucks running on the rough roads. The simutation analysis can offer the reference for investigating other performances of the truck such as opration performance and so on, and for investigating the destruction of the truck and pavements subjected to the dynamic loads.
