The modern power unit is continually developing into high parameter, large capacity and automatization. On the one hand, the efficiency of the power plant's been increased, and the principal's been decreased. It brought enormous economic benefit. But on the other hand, the loss will increase tenfold even hundredfold in case the equipment goes wrong. Meanwhile, costs and time of maintenance will be multiple. Therefore, our equipments must be more steady. At the same time, a set of theory and technique of scientific diagnosis is needed. It's asked to diagnose run state of the equipment quickly and exactly to ensure there's no accident in the power unit, or the loss can be restricted within minimal limits.Fault-tree diagnosis(also called Fault-tree analysis) is a kind of analytical method to labor step by step the reason of system fault from collectivity to parts by a tree-system. Fault-tree diagnosis is a analytical method of deducting result from reason. It is a procedure of questing for reason according to fault. The fault-tree diagnostic theory of boiler fault in power plant, the method of building this tree and the qualitative and quantitative theorem are studied in this paper. According to the structure of the NO.l boiler and technique point, a fault tree has been built to analyse the boiler fault such as overhigh or overlow smoking temperature, overlarge ash combustible, deflective smog and so on. The reason of the three fault above was been analysed from the aspect of boiler principle at first to prepare for building and analysing the fault tree. Then, on the basis of principle analysis, the fault tree can be built and qualitative or quantitative analysis can be done.
