This paper presents the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a potential assessment method for use in safety management. Few safety performance assessment models can show the dynamic performance of construction projects on site, so the problem of building a dynamic model is used as an example. A hierarchy structure is then constructed for the safety performance assessment criteria. By using questionnaire filled by more than 160 safety experts in construction industry, the safety performance assessment criteria can be prioritized, a safety performance assessment model can be built and a descending-order list of construction projects can be made according to the inputs. By the result, weakness of safety performance on construction projects can also be determined. It is hoped than this will encourage the application of the AHP by safety management professionals.
