The fiber optic hydrophone is developing towards large-scale array and there is a big requirement for signal transmission and processing. In this paper, aimed at concrete project, the research on the signal of large-scale hydrophone array transmission and processing has been made and the scheme of signal processing based on Ethernet and computer cluster has been bring forward.The scheme has two parts: network transmission of the hydrophone array signal and cluster signal processing.The network transmission part is based on TI's TMS320C6000 series DSP and the Network Development kit (NDK).The Ethernet interface between DSP and computer cluster has been implemented and the test on the performance of the interface has been made. Furthermore, the relationship between the number of hydrophone sensor heads and the network bandwidth has been analyzed which leads to the method of how to calculate the minium bandwith of network given the scale of the hydrophone array.With the implementation of the array signal network transmission, a cluster computing project has been put forward. This project can satisfy the requirements for hydrophone array signal processing by computer cluster. Its hardware and software structure determines that it is expansible and has good performance-price ratio. What is more, an experimental PC cluster made by four Pentium IV computers has been set up, which has reached 8G flops computing performance. The factors that influence the cluster performance have been analyzed, too. This cluster system realizes parallel hydrophone signal computing with the ability to expand. It can satify the requirement of the medium-scale hydrophone array signal real-time processing.Aimed at large-scale hydrophone array signal processing, a project of multilevel cluster processing for large array has been put forward, whose key technic has been discussed in detail.
