Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membranes have been the most employed for ethanol-permselective pervaporation. Ethanol can be separated from its aqueous solution, so that the development and application of PDMS membranes are very important in the treatment of wastewater from industry. In order to improve separability, many researches have been concentrated on modification of PDMS membranes. In this thesis, a novel inorganic/organic composite membrane was prepared through introducing carbon black into PDMS membrane in order to improve ethanol separability of PDMS membrane. In the research work, first, carbon black without further treatment was added into PDMS membrane and characteristics of pervaporation and swelling were investigated; second, treatments such as extraction, methylolation and high-temperature heating were carried out to increase hydrophobility of carbon black surface, and separation ability of modified carbon black-filled PDMS membrane was also studied; finally, the effects of evaluation temperature on membrane performance were studiedThe results showed that the addition of carbon black without further treatment had no effect on separation factor of PDMS membranes, but increased permeation rate from 70.74 g · m-2 · h-1 to 127.32 g · m-2 · h-1 with 1.5wt% carbon black in membrane and 13.7wt% ethanol in feed mixture. Besides, it was observed that carbon black of smaller size had nicer...
