The USB technology is developing quickly, and the merits of USB on design, production, use and maintenance are in evidence. The GPIB solves the interlinkage of the apparatus in the auto-test field. The GPIB system can get higher speed, and it is more convenience and cheaper than other system. Considering the USB's excellency and GPIB's virtue, the author combines USB and GPIB.USB-GPIB controller is used in the field of signal exchange and transfer, so the exploitation cycle is deeply cut.In this paper, the hardware and firmware of the USB-GPIB controller are mainly studied. Firstly the author analyses the protocol of USB and GPIB, and then selects the chips of USB interface and GPIB interface, CY7C68013 and TMS9914. The paper presents a design of the USB-GPIB controller. The paper is concentrated on discussing the design method of software and hardware and the hardware are laid on the following: circuit design of system, design of I~2C bus and design of function of GPIB and so on.The chips of USB and GPIB are framed on the firmware. This paper adopts keil 51, designs the programmes to implement the hardware. Flow-chart and some programme-explains are introduced in this paper.WinDriver is adopted during the design of the drivers. WinDriver provides universal drivers which can be customized by users. It takes little time to design the system.
