As a new type of pulsed power supply, compensated pulsed alternator(CPA) concentrates all the functions of energy storage, electromechanical conversion and power conditioning in one machine. These integrating advantages make it the promisingly compact power supply system suitable for electro-thermal chemical gun (ETCG). Now the researches of application of CPA are developed in many nations, and the research scale & technical level are improved greatly.Aiming at applying as the pulsed power supply of ETCG, a permanent magnet, two-phase passive CPA (PCPA) is designed and some key problems are resolved. Simultaneity some internal and external factors affecting the pulse current shape are discussed, and some methods to modify the pulse shape are presented. The main content and contribution of this thesis are listed as follows:1) A general review on the operation principle, development and current research situation of the compensator is presented.2) In order to reduce the inductance and improve the output power of CPA, some key technologies such as two-phase & foul-pole structure, air-gap windings and end-turns shield are employed. 3) At the first time the thermal capacity of conductor is used as a criterion to check the electro-load of armature.4) Depth of permeation is used to determine the thickness of the shield.5) At the first time a permanent excitation structure is used in the design of CPA. The inner magnetic field of CPA is simulated and fundamental dimension of permanent magnet material is optimized.6) The calculating expression of transient inductance of CPA is deduced through the application of harmonious analysis method to magnetic field distribution in the air-gap. This expression is important to the theoretical analysis and engineering optimize design of CPA.7) Some internal and external factors affecting the pulse current shape are discussed, and the control methods for the pulse current shape are acquired form the simulation results. Furthermore, the methods of modifying pulsed current shape which can satisfy the load of conventional ETCG are put forward through simulation. All the work this thesis has done can offer theoretical and experimental guides for the optimization design and discharge system experiment of CPA.
