A Study On The Renovation And Reconstruction Of Quancheng Square And Quancheng Shopping Street Area In Jinan

Being the core area of the center district in the national famous historical and cultural city of Jinan, the Quancheng Square and Quancheng Shopping Street Area acts as an important node in the city's characteristic scenical belt with strong attractions for tourist, as well as a central site for civic activities such as meeting, recreation and shopping. In recent years, large scale urban constructions have brought on a series of serious urban problems, which desiderate urban renovation and reconstruction immediately. The objective of this dissertation is to examine the actual problems in the area, and to explore feasible solutions from urban design point of view.This dissertation is consisted of two parts. In Part One, including the first four chapters, historical reviews and actual problems analysis in the Quancheng Square and Quancheng Shopping Street Area were developed. Examed are main aspects such as historical development of Jinan City and the area, pedestrian and traffic system, urban built environment and management conditions in the area.Part Two, from Chapter Five to Chapter Eight, focuses on urban design study of the renovation and reconstruction in the Quancheng Square and Quancheng Shopping Street Area. In Chapter Five related experiences of renovation were drawn for reference. From Chapter Six to Chapter Eight, under the guide of relative theories of renovation and reconstruction, proposals were brought forward for the future development, including particular principles, directions, plans and implementary strategies for urban design in the area.
