From Building To Settlement Pattern

At the beginning, I decided two aspects to study: the modes of how the building units makeup blocks; how do the modes work on the settlement pattern in the village.Firstly, the study of vernacular villages in our country is mainly concentrate in buildings or settlement patterns themselves, the develop study of the villages is less. This article is based on the case study of the XIDI village, analyses the composing mode of settlement pattern. I want to find some reliable rules in the expanding process of the village. Secondly, the XIDI village is one of the World Cultural Heritages. There are a lot of resources in the passed researching. When I want to draw a growing map of the village, I fond that is very difficult. I can only look for some clues in the actuality status.The village is made up of building units. The developing process of village is a kind of social constructing process. Studying of building units to village space form is in a " from bottom to top" way, it is similar to the real status.Settlement pattern includes region block,interface,crunode and space network. The study mainly concerns the relationship of the building units and the four aspects. There are:from the buildings to building groups—study of region blocks.from the buildings to interfaces—study of village space.from the buildings to crunodes—study of the form of village crunodesfrom the buildings to space network—study of settlement pattern in the village.
