With the development of social economic and tourism, the ancient village of Huizhou area becomes the focus of attention. Xidi village of Huizhou is changing slowly with the modern life style and the development of tourism,including architecture style、the external public space and life style. These changes is not reversible. So how to protect the Intangible heritage and culture heritage is a imminent problem.This thesis is taking the external public space of Xidi village as an example,discussing the external public space independently to make sure the depth of the thesis. Firstly introduce the region of Huizhou to understanding the culture of Xidi County. Secondly introduce the development of Xidi County and the civilian dwellings in Ming and Qing dynasty. After analysis the composition of border、the value analysis and the mode of behavior, we find the Xidi county can not satisfied the modern life style. It have some problems, such as the authenticity、the growth of population and limited common space. This paper is trying to discuss these problems, talking the methods and principles of protection planning. Ultimately,study the protection and development of the external public space of Xidi. We divide the external space into the material environment、ancillary facilities and intangible heritage, which is corresponding to the paper.We think the county needs to develop for keeping alive, and preserve can not satisfied the development of society. But the pell-mell development will destroy the environment of county. We need to find the equilibrium point between development and protection, to pursue the protection during the development andpursue the development during the protection. The external public space is a factor of protecting county, so it is the paper’s point.
