Water resource is one of the most fundamental elements to support human lives and ,economic development and sustainable development. It is an important task nowadays and in the future to realize sustainable uses and utilize economic, social, ecological benefits of water resource. Evaluation of water resource , which provides a scientific basis of sustainable development and management of water resource, is a precondition of engineering planning, design and management associated with water resource.The paper begins with evaluation methods of water resource. After analyzed and studied advantages, disadvantages and different application conditions of reguiar evaluation methods, several evaluation model of water resource are come up with, and are applied to evaluation of groundwater quality. Research results show that application of these methods to groundwater quality assessment is feasible and effective, which can be applied to other evaluation problems of water resource. In this paper , genetic algorithm is applied to optimizing the parameters of evaluation models. Genetic algorithm is a self-adaptive collateral, random, general and global search algorithm, which stimulates biologic evolution process based on natural selection and population heredity. Implicit parallelism and global searching are two characteristics of genetic algorithm. So it is very simple and effective to apply genetic algorithm to some non-linear optimum problems.
