With the rapid development of national economy, the railway trade is now facing the great challenge. And the depot-which undertakes the pulling task of the locomotives is also facing the great challenge. The informationization of the railway has become a inevitable trend. The informationization degree of the depot directly influences the informationization process of the whole railway. Its basic goal is to apply the information technology to every activity of railway production and management and administrative decision extensively, so that the traditional industry can be rebuilt, thus the whole competitiveness of the railway transportation trade can be improved. The informationnization of the locomotive overhaul is the vital part of railway informationization, for the management systems of the traditional locomotive overhaul can't get rid of the human factor in the course, so it is unable to control the quality of the locomotive overhaul, and results in a great deal of bad consequences, such as lagging behind of management, repeating processing, low efficiency etc. So, it is of vital importance to apply information technology to the locomotive overhaul processing. Thus, it can utilize the data to predict future, utilize information and model to aid decision, and also realize its controlling goal and behavior.The paper analyses and compares with the development approaches of many kinds of information systems based on the comparison of domestic and international locomotive overhaul information systems, and then puts forward a set of locomotive overhaul information system based on C/S mode. And then the detailed demand analysis of the system has been carried on, and the workflow of the system has been defined, the systematic solution has been put forward direct against the actual conditions of the depot: the division of each subsystem, the design of the database, the realization of typical module and its key algorithms. Next its key technology and the questions have also been discussed. In the end, the whole development of the system has been summarized and the future work has been pointed out according to the weak points of the system.The system practically has been proved to be effective in controlling the process of the locomotive overhaul, and can reach the good result of the overhauling.
