In order to meet variable market demands, reconfigurable manufacturing system emerges. It is a new type of manufacturing system which can manufacture various workpieces by reconfiguring manufacturing cells and equipments. The key of reconfiguring a manufacturing cell is to have a reconfigurable control system, so it is very useful to study the control system of reconfigurable manufacturing cell. At first, control architecture, function model of cell controller and running platform of the control system of reconfigurable manufacturing cell are studied in this paper. Then OPC technology is introduced, its effect on the control of manufacturing cell is analysed, and the design methods of an OPC data access server based on the OPC server toolkit are elaborated. Based on the above research, the software architecture of the control system of reconfigurable manufacturing cell based on OPC is established, and its cell controller and components of equipment interfaces and workstations are designed in detail. On this basis, a prototype system is developed, by which two control systems of the flexible manufacturing system and the modular production system are constructed in the CIMS center of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. At last, this paper summarizes the research work and raises some constructive suggestions for deep research.
