When the time of AIS entire installation comes to an end, more and more AIS equipments have been built in ships. In order to efficiently use AIS, it is time to design and set up AIS networks. At present, many foreign countries have worked over AIS networks for several years and have built many AIS system network instances. In China, the research is just to start. Now there are two miniature AIS system networks in Changjiang river estuary and Zhujiang river estuary. In the future, more and more AIS system networks over the coasts and the rivers in China will be founded which can develop the identification of vessels and the effective administration for ships in our water area.AIS network over the lower reaches of the Changjiang river is discussed in this paper. AIS station is the investigative topic and the research is based on modern communication and network technologies. In the paper, there are mainly three parts. First, this paper presents the idea of AIS network in the lower reaches of the Changjiang river, including analyzing network's functions concluding AIS station's layout based on VTS GMDSS and beacons and selecting the mediums of transmitting. Then VPN technology is brought forward to link Shanghai AIS control center to the other stations to ensure the credible transmission. Second, this paper analyzes the AIS network's corresponding model. The correspondence is based on C/S model, and the transport protocols are TCP/IP. From the analysis of AIS data's packet frame, the AIS data decoding process and the data-base model for the AIS data preservation are put forward. Finally, as the limitation of experimental conditions, the paper uses computers' communications to simulate the AIS data's transmitting and AIS data's management. Visual Basic 6.0 is used to implement applications for the simulation system, and the database manage system is SQL Server 2000. The AIS network simulation system has been completed, including the system function's analysis, model design and function's implementation. The deep water channel's AIS data in Changjiang river estuarywill be used to display the transmitting process. At the end of the thesis, the summarize of the paper is particularly presented, and the next researchful direction is prospected.
