As a type of familiar hydraulic engineering works the sluice is applied widely in the water resources project, especially in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province. The design of sluice includes many calculated contents and the working capacity is large, task is heavy, Design time is long. Presently there has been no a suit of more whole design program that is compiled according to ?Design specification of sluice? (SL265-2001) and the problem is solved imminently in practice.In order to accelerate the modern process of the sluice design, this research is done. A suit of calculated software system is invented which has better man-machine reciprocity and that mainly serves the middling and small design units and program code is worked out by Visual Basic6.0.Development contents are 27 major design calculation projects which are possible to meet with in sluice calculation including eight calculation module such as the brake chamber stability analysis, the floor structural computation, the computation on a pile foundation, the pier structural computation, the breast-wall structural computation, the quay wall and wing wall structural computation, the sluice foundation settlement computation, the sluice hydraulic computation and the side wall structural computation, the baffle computation, the computation of seepage lift and so on. It shows that those are satisfied with actual design specification of sluice. The software has been applied in the project example and proved that the calculated result is reliable.The article has further discussed about the seepage of sluice foundation. Two methods which are the finite element method and the modified resistance method of correlates are mainly adopted to study the effect of the sheet-pile length to the seepage of sluice foundation Compared with two methods we come to some useful conclusions and it will help to project design.The application shows the software has better versatility and practicality .It applies to the medium or small sluice design and also offers calculating reference to the large sluice design; the system provides a succinct, beautiful operating platform on which that input data adopts " data frame " form, establishing data file is simple and convenient, we can look over program explanation and use edit ware at any time, man-machine interface is friendly. There are 3 calculation methods of beam on elastic foundation including Semi-infinite Deep Foundation and Finite Deep Foundation and Winkler Foundation. The software develops especially calculation module including the pile foundation structure, the gate slot structure, the deck-girder breast-wall structure, the quay wall structure of bilateral asymmetry, the stiffness adjustment of the lateral sluice foundation settlement computation and so on. This system accords with current standard requirement and has perfect function, convenient operation, strong practicality and reliable calculation result. Department of water resources of Guangdong Province organizes the accomplishment evaluation to the application project of this software and it reaches domestic advanced level through the tries in the partial design units of water resources in Guangdong Province. The development of this software will raise the speed and the quality of the sluice design greatly and make the design calculation scientific, refined ,it produces positive social and economic benefit.
