On Supporting System In Urban Design

This article is the first part of the series, which pay emphasis on Concepts, elements, relations and function of the Supporting System in Urban Design. The other four articles should go deeper into one of the elements.Along with the new development of urban design in china, a problem "how to be effected" is facing us. We attempt to suggest the theory of Supporting System in Urban Design based on the Urban Design Process, desiring to analysis the outer circumstance for the circulation of Urban Design.The first is the preface. Based on comparing the new experience in foreign countries with the actuality in china, we suggest the concept of Supporting System.The second, Urban Design has two kinds of process, corporality and sociality. Increasingly, the effects from the latter affect Urban Design. According to this theory of Two-Dim Process, we find the status and relation of Supporting System.The third, we enumerate four important elements of Supporting System, and focus on the concepts, correlation and limitation.The fourth, we discuss the concept and methodology of the Process Organizing.The fifth' s aim is to take the method facing the fact. Based the theory of Supporting System, we get some new standpoints of our own on such old problem, "Urban Design should be combined with City Planning" .
