Global Digital Manufacturing (GDM) is a new concept emerged on the road of information technology development in manufacturing industry by the effect of global economic integration rapidly development. It aims to solve the problem of distributed cooperating manufacture. GDM is a complex system, which involved every aspect of software and hardware in the process of manufacture. It needs not only supporting by new information system environment, but also an idea inversion of people and improvement of their ability. This information system environment is the foundation, the transport, the platform of GDM. Therefore, the primary coverage of this paper is about how to implement a software platform environment of GDM.The foundation of GDM are those single digital manufacturing technology, the operating strategy of GDM is the mode of Agile Manufacturing, the structure of it's organization is according to Virtual Enterprise way, and the character of GDM can be summarized to distributing, unification, cooperation, agility, and innovation. The main problem that GDM faced lies in the fact of distributing in geography, requirement of agility inside the organization, and cooperation between collaborating organizations. After analyzed the difficulty induced by the problem mentioned above, a reference architecture of GDM is brought forward from technique aspect combining author's experience of researching on information system related technology several years. The main feature of this architecture is that it is able to support cooperating work in distributed environment, and can achieve effective innovation in virtue of Knowledge Engineering. At the same time, a prototype system according to this architecture is developed, and two key subsystems in the architecture are implemented, i.e. 3D collaboration engineering system and distributing cooperating business process management system.The demand of 3D collaboration engineering is due to two facts, the first one is distributing situation of the allied organization in GDM, and the second one is the diverse format of 3D model file. So the research on 3D collaboration engineering has two major subjects: interoperability of 3D model file format and 3D model viewing under distributing environment. After analyzed on some main stream 3D collaboration platform, a simplified 3D collaboration system was implemented in the prototype system using Cimmetry AutoVue as base platform.Distributing cooperating business process management is the core function of GDM. It's required not only integrating internal business process of organization, but also communicating and collaboration between allied enterprises distributed over the world. So after analyzing a reasonable system architecture of business process management in this circumstance, this paper discuss how to implement cooperating business process management in distributed circumstance by using J2EE platform and Web Services technology, and then expatiated on how the function of Business Process Orchestration(BPO) and Business Process Engine was implemented in the prototype system.
