Cable Dome, as a long-span flexible structure, was founded by Geiger in 1986. It is based on the Tensegrity System of Fuller. Since it appeared, more and more people have been attracted by its ingenious design, excellent performance, fashionable configuration and economic cost.Based on many previous literatures, the development history, the behavior, the mechanism and the state of the art of Cable Dome are described. The main research in this thesis is put forward. Cable Dome can be categorized into many types according to the plane shape, the roof configuration, layout of the ridge-cable and whether it is punched or not as well. The Cable Dome with circle plane and spherical roof is investigated in this thesis. The analysis of static behavior of Cable Dome includes two parts. The first part aims to trace loading process, where load-displacement curve and variation of cable stress are determined. The second part concerns parameter analysis, where structural parameters, including cable prestress, strut length, the span, the span-to-rise ratio, layout of the ridge-cable and layout of the diagonal-cable, are changed individually to investigate their effects on the stiffness and failure load of Cable Dome. Finally, the behavior of the Ribbed Cable Dome is compared with that of the Lamella Cable Dome under full-span and half-span uniform loads.Dynamic behavior analysis is concentrated on the modal analysis. Natural vibration frequency and vibration modal in Ribbed and Lamella Cable Dome are both studied. Further more, parameter analysis is carried out for the Lamella Cable Dome where cable prestress, struts length, the span-to-rise ratio are considered. In addition, the sectional forms of Cable Dome struts with and without prestress were discussed, and elastic buckling behaviors of five strut forms are also analyzed. At the end of the thesis, some conclusions are summarized and the further study on Cable Dome is proposed.
