As a tensegrity system, the large annular cable-bar dome has good performances. Up to now,few studies on this type of structure have been carried out at home and abroad. Thus,it is important to study the structural performances in theory and engineering.Firstly, the finite element model of the cable-bar structure is studied in this thesis. Being the most important member of the structure, the cable is described in detail. The problems of the numerical model and the finite element formula and the pretress application of cables are discussed in this thesis. On the basis of the basic theories and methods about stability analyses,arc-length method is used to analyze the geometrical nonlinear stability of the structure. And the effects of the rise-to-span ratio and the prestress in cables etc. on the structural stability are discussed.Compared with the relevant single-layer reticulated dome, the dynamic characteristics is studied and the effects of the rise-to-span ratio and the prestress in cables etc. on the dynamic characteristics are discussed in this thesis. Some proposals can be applied to practical engineering. The vibration shapes-separation-spectra-method and time-history method are used to analyze the dynamic response of the cable-bar structure under common earthquake. And the effects of the rise-to-span ratio and the mass distribution are studied. The effects of the cable arrangement on the structural performances are discussed in this thesis. The effects of the rise-to-span ratio and the prestress in cables with different cable arrangement are studied and the optimized cable arrangements are found. Finally, some conclusions are summarized and the topics for further research are put forward.
