In recent years, with the increase of traffic load and tire pressure, prematurerutting of heavy duty asphalt pavement has become the primary problem. Manyasphalt technologists believe that the use of large stone asphalt mixture will minimizeor eliminate the rutting of duty pavements, and other performance won't reduce.Referring to the research result of large stone asphalt mixture in foreign countries, thestructure and performance of large stone asphalt treated base have been researched. At the beginning, the composition and intensity mechanism of large stone asphaltmixture have been analysed. Then the grading of large stone asphalt mixture isdiscussed in this dissertation based on multi-grade stone-to-stone theory, and thedesign method of large stone asphalt mixture has also been disscussed. Secondly, high temperature stability properity, fatigue performance and moisturesusceptibility of large stone asphalt mixture have been disscussed withexperimentation in the laboratory. And through performance tests with the differentasphalt content , the optimum asphalt content is confirmed. Then, referring to the design methods and design indexes of flexible pavement inforeign countries and contrastting with those of asphalt pavement with semi-rigid base, fatigue design criteria of large stone asphalt treated base has been brought forward onthe base of research in design methods of asphalt treated base. Then the fatigue designmethod brought forward in this dissertation is constrasted with those in foreigncountries. In the end, the fatigue design method used in rehabilitation for old pavement hasbeen validated through test road, then construction technics and control of large stoneasphalt mixture have been researched. And lay some sensors in the structure toanalyse pavement structure and research the long-term performance of pavement.
