They have analyzed forms of Bashu towns and buildings from early Qing Dynasty on. It is a pity that the value of Chongqing traditional buildings with patio has been ignored. Traditional buildings with patio are found in dwelling houses, temples and guild buildings. At present, studies on traditional buildings with paito are fragmentary, and lack of systematic analyses, hence needs to be further tapped.The study of Chongqing traditional building with patio is based on the cases that are conserved in Chongqing, focusing on the features of the buildings and their social background. The essay emphasizes the analyses of spatial form, constructive techniques, decoration art and culture meaning. It is composed of 7 chapters.Chapter One is the foreword. Definition of patio, topic selection, researching area, internal researching status and researching methods will be introduced in this chapter.The whole discussion can be divided into three parts.The first part comprises the 2nd chapter. In this part, general features of buildings with patio are described from the angle of cultural background, general distributing and so on. It concludes several ingenious methods of designing with mountain terrain. It also pays special attention to the patio's function in the whole building.The second part is the detailed studies of such kind of buildings, which comprises studies on the architecture in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th chapters. Firstly the space is studied. Space geometry form, space order and the law of development are discussed. Secondly, construct and technique are mentioned. The particular technique of patio structure is especially emphasized. Then, it dwells on the details of buildings. Decoration thatshows the folk custom is described. At the end of this part, it comes to the disadvantages of traditional patio buildings.The third part, the 7th chapter, is the conclusion of the dissertation. According to the studies above and several successful present cases, constructive ideas and measures are put forward.The whole research goes deep into the development and features of Chongqing traditional buildings with patio. It also deepens and summarizes the former studies on Chongqing traditional architecture.
