This paper researched the level and characteristic of the electromagnetic disturbances and their transmission modes and coupling passes, and set immunity requirement for monitor, control and protect equipment or systems intended for use in converter and substation. The main contributions are as follows.1. The level and characteristic of the electromagnetic disturbances in converter and substation are researched. The 11 electromagnetic disturbance phenomena as surge and their level and characteristic are analyzed. Analyzed transmission passes of their disturbances and coupling modes to automation apparatus.2. Many transient disturbance waveforms are measured and recorded during switching operations in four SOOkV converter and substation .3. Classified the electromagnetic environments in converter and substation, and determined related electromagnetic disturbance level.4. Determined 10 immunity tests and test level for monitor, control and protect equipment or systems intended for use in converter and substation, and established immunity assessment criteria for the different functional requirements and actual electromagnetic condition.The automation apparatus may be located at the switching field in converter andsubstation if they matched the immunity requirement of this paper.
